AI Terms of Use
Effective July 4, 2026This AI Terms of Use explains, in one place, exactly what happens when you use an AI-powered feature in SurnaCare: what information is sent, which company receives it, why it's sent, and how you can control that. It supplements our Terms of Use and Privacy Policy and does not replace either of them.
What This Document Covers
SurnaCare includes a family of AI-powered features, all built on top of a third-party large language model. Before any of these features send your information to that AI provider, we want you to understand exactly what is being shared, with whom, and why. This document covers that separately from the general disclosures in our Terms of Use and Privacy Policy.
Most of SurnaCare's core features, including personalized recommendations, wellness insights, and risk analysis, are built on AI processing. Because of this, accepting this AI Terms of Use is a condition of using the Service. You will be asked to review and accept this document during account creation, before you can access SurnaCare's features (see Section 6).
AI Features in SurnaCare
The following features are powered by AI. Each one sends a limited, feature-specific set of your information (described in Section 3) to our AI provider in order to generate a response:
- Sura: the AI companion chat available throughout the app.
- Sura for Partners: the AI assistant available to a connected partner account.
- Personalized Wellness: orders and explains the wellness experiences shown to you.
- Journal Insights: analyzes the sentiment and emotional tone of journal entries you choose to save.
- Baby Tracker Insights:including AI pattern analysis and the quick AI summary (“Baby Brief”) on the baby tracker Overview tab.
- Unseen Things: a rotating emotional check-in question with an AI-generated personal reflection.
- Mother Reflections: short spoken reflections across categories like sleep support, anxiety relief, and grief.
- Partner Messages: AI-drafted message suggestions you can send to your partner.
- Weekly and Monthly Letters: an AI-generated personal reflection summarizing recent activity.
Every AI-generated response in SurnaCare is informational only. It is not medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment, and every response includes a disclaimer saying so.
What Data Is Sent to Our AI Provider
We only send the information a given feature needs to generate its response. We never send your entire profile or history at once. Depending on the feature you use, this may include:
- What you type: the message you send to Sura or Sura for Partners, and the journal entry you submit for analysis.
- Journey context: your current stage (IVF, pregnancy, postpartum, parenting), days postpartum, delivery type, and feeding method.
- Wellness signals: recent mood check-in scores, mood trend, and (where relevant to a partner-facing feature) your EPDS risk level.
- Baby tracker data: recent feed, sleep, diaper, and growth log entries, and baby name/age, used only to generate pattern insights or the Baby Brief summary.
- First name and baby name: used to personalize the tone of a response; never sent to advertising or analytics systems.
We do not send your full account history, password, payment information, or assessment answers you have not explicitly engaged the related AI feature with. AI features never run in the background without an action from you.
Why This Data Is Sent
Data is sent to Google's Gemini API for the sole purpose of generating the response you requested in that moment. For example, replying to a message you sent Sura, or analyzing the sentiment of a journal entry you chose to save. It is not used for advertising, sold to any third party, or combined with data from other companies.
Your Consent Is Required to Use the Service
Because most of SurnaCare's features depend on sending your information to our AI provider to generate recommendations, insights, and companion responses, accepting this AI Terms of Use is required to create an account and use the Service. Surna Care will show you this document and ask you to explicitly accept it before you can complete account creation. If you do not accept, you will not be able to create an account or access SurnaCare's features.
AI processing is integral to how the Service works, not an optional layer you can selectively turn off while continuing to use the rest of the app.
If you later decide you no longer want your information processed by our AI provider, you can close your account at any time through your account settings or by contacting us at privacy@surnacare.com. Closing your account stops all further AI processing of your data. Your data is then handled as described in the Termination section of our Terms of Use and in our Privacy Policy.
AI Limitations
AI is not always right. AI features in SurnaCare do not diagnose conditions, interpret lab results, prescribe or recommend medication, or provide crisis intervention.
Responses are generated automatically and may be incomplete, inaccurate, outdated, or not applicable to your individual situation. They are not reviewed by a clinician before you see them, and you should not treat any AI response as a confirmed fact about your health. Always consult your physician, midwife, or therapist for medical guidance, and in a medical or mental health emergency call 911 or contact the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.
Children's Data
AI features are available only to adult account holders 18 years or older, per our Terms of Use. Baby tracker data referenced by AI features (Section 3) belongs to the adult account holder's tracker and is used only to generate insights for that adult. We do not create an AI profile for an infant.
Changes to This Document
If we materially change what data an AI feature sends, which AI provider we use, or how that provider handles your data, we will update the effective date above and require you to re-accept this AI Terms of Use before you can continue using AI features.
